DESCRIPTION:Join us for a relaxing morning in nature while we celebrate the Grand Opening of a self-guided Forest Bathing Walk at Detweiler Park!\nJustin Ferko of Wild Spirit Paths will lead a guided sensory meditation walk along this new\, self-guided trail. This walk is designed for families with children. The guided walk will be directed towards children\, teaching them to use their senses as they walk in nature to discover more about what is around them. Certain prompts along the trail will change with the seasons. Tea and light refreshments will be available after the walk. Registrants must be accompanied by a chaperone for the duration of the program. Pre-registration required. Space is limited. Please register only the number and ages of children attending this walk.\n\n\nOriginating in Japan\, forest bathing or shinrin yoku\, is a mindfulness meditation that invites you to slow down and connect with the natural world through your senses.\n\n\nFunding for this project was made possible through the Penn State Health Community Relations Grant Program.\n\n\n

DESCRIPTION:Join the Friends of Detweiler Park for their second annual BioBlitz event. Spend the day outdoors with naturalists\, field specialists\, and nature enthusiasts from various organizations\, identifying plants and animals that call Detweiler Park home. \nWhat is a BioBlitz? A BioBlitz is like a nature treasure hunt! It’s a fun\, community science event where people\, scientists\, students\, families\, and nature lovers come together to find and record as many plants\, animals\, fungi\, and other living things as possible in a specific area over a short period of time (usually a few hours or a day). Participants take photos of wildlife using a phone or camera\, then upload those photos to iNaturalist – a free app that helps you identify your surroundings with the help of expert scientists from around the world. BioBlitz events also help scientists understand local biodiversity and raise awareness about nature and conservation. \nDay of Guided Walks:  \n\n10:00 am – 11:30 am – Discovery Walk\n\nDay of Vendors:  \n\nFriends of Detweiler\nDCPR\nDauphin County Conservation District\nDauphin County Anglers & Conservationists\nAppalachian Audubon

Come explore the trails while listening and looking for Warblers\, Orioles\, Wrens\, and more. After the walk\, stop by the first annual Discover Detweiler BioBlitz hosted by the Friends of Detweiler Park. The event will be from 10 am – 3 pm. Learn about the plants and animals that call Detweiler home\, enjoy exhibits from various environmental organizations\, and participate in interpretive walks throughout the day. \nThis program is part of the Park Rx series of programs sponsored by Highmark Blue Shield.
