DESCRIPTION:Join the Astronomical Society of Harrisburg for an evening of stargazing at Detweiler Park. The evening will begin with a short 0.3-mile walk along variable terrain to the open fields. Weather permitting\, local astronomers will be on hand to show you night sky objects using their telescopes. Bring binoculars to help find the constellations Leo and Cancer\, planets Mars and Jupiter\, along with a star cluster or two. Walking sticks and a red light are highly encouraged if available to help navigate trails in the dark. Space is limited. Pre-registration required.

DESCRIPTION:Join the Friends of Detweiler Park for their second annual BioBlitz event. Spend the day outdoors with naturalists\, field specialists\, and nature enthusiasts from various organizations\, identifying plants and animals that call Detweiler Park home. \nWhat is a BioBlitz? A BioBlitz is like a nature treasure hunt! It’s a fun\, community science event where people\, scientists\, students\, families\, and nature lovers come together to find and record as many plants\, animals\, fungi\, and other living things as possible in a specific area over a short period of time (usually a few hours or a day). Participants take photos of wildlife using a phone or camera\, then upload those photos to iNaturalist – a free app that helps you identify your surroundings with the help of expert scientists from around the world.
