SUMMARY:Walk and Talk with a Master Gardener
DESCRIPTION:Join Penn State Master Gardeners for a leisurely one-hour walk to learn about some of the many perennials\, shrubs\, and trees in the Park. Gather inspiration for your garden and gain unique information about this local Park\, by learning to identify these plants\, some of their pollinators\, other insects or diseases\, and soil or location preferences. Plants also have ‘secrets’ and we’ll share some of them\, such as being deer repellant\, toxic or invasive. The Master Gardeners are trained horticulturists and are eager to share their knowledge with you. \nFeel free to provide a lawn chair for the discussions after our walk. As gardeners\, you may want to share some of your experiences with us at our Q-and-A period\, during this time. You are encouraged to extend your experience at the Park\, by taking a stroll through the woods and fields that surround the area of our walk. Whether you are a serious gardener or outdoor enthusiast\, you will find this Park to be a great place for a walk\, to get some fresh air\, and to relax! \nParticipants can choose to walk only a portion. This program is open to all ages\, but all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. \nWhat to know before you go: \n\nDress for the weather\nWear comfortable supportive shoes\nBring a bottle of water to stay hydrated\nYou may want to wear sunscreen\, bug repellent\, and a hat\nRestrooms are available on-site\nPlease check your email 1-hour before the start time for any last-minute weather cancellations or updates.\n\nThis is a Park Rx wellness program sponsored by Highmark Blue Shield and supported by Penn State Extension Master Gardeners of Dauphin County.

DESCRIPTION:Join the Friends of Detweiler Park for their first annual Discover Detweiler BioBlitz event. Spend the day outdoors with naturalists\, field specialists\, and nature enthusiasts from various organizations identifying plants and animals that call Detweiler Park home. At 411 acres\, Detweiler Park offers a variety of habitats for ecosystem explorations including fields\, meadows\, forests\, and streams. iNaturalist\, a free app\, along with other methods will be used to help participants identify their discoveries. Guided walks will be scheduled throughout the day.
