NRCS Grant Work – Invasive Plant Removal

The Friends of Detweiler Park, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization supporting the park and its mission, has recently received funding through a Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Grant for invasive species removal within the park. The Friends applied for this grant upon recommendation from the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Both mechanical removal methods and targeted herbicide application will be used throughout this process. This is a 4-year grant with work anticipated to begin in February/March 2026. In order to keep Detweiler a safe area for hiking while foresters are at work, temporary and rolling trail closures will be in place. Notice of these trail closures, as well as project updates, will be posted throughout the park and online.

Work under this grant will begin our mission of preserving and conserving the natural habitats within the park. Invasive plants can crowd out native species, reduce wildlife habitat, and affect the overall health of the park. By carefully removing them, we are helping native plants and animals thrive for years to come.
