Directions & How to Get Here

Detweiler Park is located north of Harrisburg at 1451 Peters Mountain Road, Dauphin, PA 17018. Nestled between Peters Mountain and Clarks Creek, it offers visitors a serene escape into nature

Parking: There is one main parking lot at the trailhead, which provides easy access to the park’s primary trails. Please note that parking is limited; plan accordingly during peak visiting hours.

Driving Directions:

  • From Harrisburg: Take US-322 West to the PA-225/Peters Mountain Road exit. Turn right onto PA-225 North/Peters Mountain Road. Continue for about 1.8 miles; the park entrance will be on your right.
  • From Halifax: Head south on PA-147 and turn right onto PA-225 South/Peters Mountain Road. Continue for approximately 5 miles; the park entrance will be on your left.

Park Amenities

  • ADA-accessible restrooms are located at the main park entrance. Two port-o-johns are located at the top of the hill near the first intersection of the Stackpole Loop and David’s Field Loop trails.
  • Trash receptacles are located at main park entrance.
  • Kiosks with upcoming programs and doggy bags are located at the trailhead.

Facilities & Park Guidelines

Detweiler Park offers a range of amenities to enhance your visit:

  • Restrooms: A port-a-john is available near the trailhead for visitor use.
  • Pet-Friendly: Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a leash at all times. Please clean up after your pet and dispose of waste properly.
  • Trash Policy: Detweiler Park operates on a carry-in, carry-out policy. Please take all trash with you to help keep the park clean and beautiful.

Rules & Regulations

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors, please observe the following rules:

  • Park hours are from dawn to dusk. No entry is permitted after dark.
  • Pets must be leashed at all times, and pet waste must be removed from the park.
  • Hunting, trapping, and the use of motorized vehicles is prohibited.
  • Alcohol & drug use are not permitted within the park.
  • Feeding of wildlife is prohibited to protect both the animals and the ecosystem.
  • Do not remove plants, animals, or any natural or historic features from the park.
  • Respect park boundaries and adjacent private properties.
